- Lisa Howard wasn't able to get a good jog as a single mom
- She and her son eventually started their own business
- They are now hiring mostly single moms
A businesswoman who had a difficult time getting a good job as a single mom now makes sure to hire mostly single moms.
28-year-old Lisa Howard, from New Jersey in the US, was just 16 when she had her son Cory. She was living in foster care and struggled to provide for her son.
However, she never gave up. When Cory was six years old, he began to sell cookies to passersby along a street so he could buy his mom a car.
They soon developed a unique recipe and converted their venture into a fully incorporated business, which they called Mr. Cory's Cookies.
Cory acts as the CEO while Lisa is the CFO. They also attracted an investor and today, their business has grown substantially.
In the long run, the mother-son duo hopes to build a staff contingent that's 70 percent single moms. In an interview with upworthy.com, Lisa said:
We can help them by giving them a chance.
