Police detain over 700 Ivorians, 4 arrested in Ashanti Region

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has detained about 700 Ivorians at Atimatim New site in the Afigya Kwabre West District.

The foreigners are promoting some 'illegal businesses'

The police say, the foreigners have invaded the district to promote an illegal business trade hence the arrest.

The police have also arrested four of the foreigners for perpetrating some illegalities in the area.

According to Kasapafmonline report, the Ivorians are in Ghana to establish a business called Q-Net to promote some suspicious products including Chip Pendants.

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Simon Osei Mensah and the Regional Commander, COP Ken Yeboah told Abusua FM in Kumasi that they were not convinced with explanations given them by the leadership of the group.

The police also demanded to see their products but the foreigners couldn’t provide further evidence and information about their claims.

Mr Simon Osei Mensah speaking to Abusua FM described the situation as national security threat.

He said the Defense Minister and Inspector General of Police (IGP) would be informed to help handle the situation since it is national security issue.

Meanwhile, The Assembly Man for Atimatim East Electoral Area Osei Kusi urged the Ashanti Regional Security Coordinating Council (REGSEC) to help solve the situation.

According to him, residents of Atimatim are now living in fear since the Ivorians came to the area.

“We don’t need them in our area. We don’t know where they came from and what they are coming to do here. My people cannot go out at night because of these people,” he said.
