Former Minister of Trades and Industry, Dr. Ekwow Spio-garbrah, has predicted that the 2020 presidential election is going to be a tough battle.
According to him, in order for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) to successfully wrestle power from the NPP, there must be a change in the party’s leadership.
Therefore, the party’s 2016 flag-bearer, John Dramani Mahama must step aside for another candidate to take over.
Dr. Spio-Garbrah praised himself as the most suitable candidate for the NDC, stating that he is the biblical David that the NDC needs to fight of ‘Goliath’ NPP.
He stressed that NDC also needs a candidate who is more committed to fight corruption; and he perfectly fits in that role.
“Like in the Bible, NDC will need David to fight Goliath NPP. …and I am the David”, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah told party members in Asawase Constituency in Kumasi, according a mynews.com report.
According to him, the NDC has long suffered various corruption allegations which needs to be dealt with by a more competent and new candidate, stressing the need for a fresh face for the 2020 polls.
Spio-Gabrah also said a new candidate will also diffuse long time perception that the party lacks competent and qualified persons to manage the country’s resources.
Stating what he can achieve if given the nod as the party’s candidate in 2020, the former Trade and Industry Minister said he had a CEO under his ministry investigated even though that CEO was his friend.
Reiterating his point that he is capable to fight corruption, therefore he must be voted for the lead the party in the 2020 presidential election.
He further called on old party executives to support the party in regaining power from the NPP come 2020.
