Former Vice President of the Republic, Paa Kwesi Amissah-Arthur has opened up on the direction of Ghana’s economy under the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), administration.
According to Kwesi Amissah-Arthur, the Akufo-Addo government is leading the country into an abyss, judging from how the economy is being managed.
Addressing some National Democratic Congress (NDC), party functionaries after spending his Christmas in Ho insisted that the NPP administration has failed Ghanaians, a year after being in power, since nothing meaningful has happened to the economy.
Mr. Amissah-Arthur maintained that a lot could have been done over the last 12 months under the new administration since the John Mahama government left behind a working economy.
The former Vice President also told the media that Ghanaians can only hope for a better future in the coming years under Akufo-Addo.
Amissah-Arthur who was not happy under the NPP leadership lamented that the situation where programmes are launched before the government starts working out means to fund them does not augur well for the economy.
He cited the NPP’s flagship Free SHS programme, adding that the challenges that bedeviled the laudable initiative could have been eased drastically if government had done broader consultation.
He advised the Akufo-Addo government not to rush through its programmes, but critically assess the situation on the ground before rolling them out.
