Many news agencies and online sites have started calling the elections in favor of the former AC Milan footballer.

The president-elect is believed to have pipped his opponent, 73-year-old Joseph Boakai who was Vice President of Liberia after winning 13 out of the 15 counties in the country.

Joseph Boakai served as the country’s Vice President from 2006 under the leadership of President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf.

George Weah took to his Twitter handle and made two tweets that was an insinuation of the information coming from the provisional results. In his first tweet he indicated, “I am deeply grateful to my family, my friends, and my loyal supporters who contributed to our campaign during this extremely long election season. We are on the verge of making history for our people. #Liberia #Liberia2017 #ChangeforHope”.
