- Bantamahene is calling for severe punishment against perpetrators
- All four perpetrators will be spending most of their New Year holiday in jail
The chief of Bantama in Kumasi, Baffuor Owusu Amankwatia VI, says severe punishment needs to be meted out to all teenagers who took turns to defile a young girl. According to Bantamahene, the punishment will serve as a deterrent to other persons.
"It's very, very sad for such a thing to happen and more for it to be taking place in my traditional area. Seriously when I heard about it, I really didn't believe it but then I did some investigations and I found out that the story was true," he fumed.
Meanwhile, the police is currently embarking on a manhunt against other perpetrators of the crime. The girl in question is responding positively to medical and psychological care.
Government through the gender ministry has strictly spoken against the defilement incidence as sector minister, Otiko Djaba has called for all perpetrators of the crime to be arrested.
The Police say they are on a manhunt to arrest other members of the gang, while the investigation into the incident continues.
The National Headquarters of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, indicated in a statement that, it had taken a “serious view” of the incident, and has constituted a special investigative team to look into the matter, and identify the suspects for the necessary legal actions.
The statement also asked various media houses and those in possession of the video to “stop circulating it since it is an offence to circulate such obscene materials.”
