The Kwabenya Police in the Greater Accra Region have arrested a 37-year-old police officer, Haruna Nangtoma, for breach of professionalism and conduct.
He was caught in the act with an accomplice, Yakubu Mole, trying to negotiate a bribe offer of GH¢1,000 from some ‘wee’ smokers to set them free.
The policeman and his accomplice had spotted the men allegedly smoking some dried leaves suspected to be Indian Hemp, and quickly descended on them with the demand of that amount, states a mynewsgh.com report.
According to police investigators, the embattled cop and Yakubu Mole 26 his accomplice, had arrested the four young men for allegedly smoking the narcotic drug and were demanding GH¢1000 each from them before they could be set free.
However, luck eluded them when someone saw them negotiating the payment and tipped the police who swiftly responded and arrived at the scene.
Consequently, Haruna Nangtoma and his accomplice were arrested at Atomic Roundabout on board Toyoto Corolla with registration number GR 45 – 14.
The police stopped and arrested all of them but took them to the station for cautioning.
A search was conducted on them which revealed a wrap of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drug found in the pocket of Yakubu Mole.
He also had a foreign pistol with No. Sigarms 60482330 and live ammunition were also found under the front passenger seat of the car.
A sergeant cup and a Police Uniform were also found in the car, according to the investigators.
All suspects have been detained for further investigations.
