A night watchman with the Animal Production Unit of Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) has found himself for a hasty decision he took over the non-payment of his salaries.
Mustapha Yakubu, the GNA has reported, destroyed four air-conditioners belonging to the state over claims that he had not received his salary for over seven months and has been convicted for it.
According to Sergeant Joyce Ofori, who led the Prosecution, Yakubu, said on November 23, was spotted by one Madam Veronica, a cleaner of MOFA, pushing one of the air-conditioners from one of the rooms to fall on the ground and she reported the incident to her superiors.
When Yakubu was questioned he admitted the offence of destroying the air conditioners because his efforts to get his salary paid had hit a snag.
Yakubu is said to have told the police that he had paid several visits to the Ghana Commercial Bank branch and that though he took part in the SSNIT biometric registration, he was also asked to go to the SSNIT office, which he did.

“I was given a form at SSNIT which I took to the accountant of MOFA to work on it. I however did not have access to my salary arrears,” the accused told the court.
Prosecution said he admitted before two staff of the Ministry that he destroyed the air-conditioners because he had not been paid for the past seven months.
The court presided over by Ms Aret Nsemoah found him guilty of causing unlawful damage and convicted him to a fine of GH¢960.00 or in default go to jail for four months.
