Budding dancehall artiste Theophilus Nii Arday Otoo, known by stage name as Epixode, has picked Shatta Wale over Samini for the title of Ghana’s dancehall king.
Speaking on Yen TV’s Star Chat, Epixode decided to pick the “taking over” hit maker over Samini when asked who the true dancehall king was.
He, however, went on to state that both artistes have played a huge role in taking dancehall music to the next level, while also praising the efforts of Stonebwoy and Jupitar.
According to him, the genre has grown so big that no major event can be successfully held in Ghana without a dancehall artiste headlining it.
“Dancehall is growing and it’s getting to a peak where we need to big up every dancehall or reggae-dancehall artiste in Ghana,” Epixode said.
“For the past four to five years, no big show or platform has been that successful without a reggae-dancehall artiste being the headline of the show.
“So you talk about shows like S-Concert, Ghana Music Awards and most of the shows that are organized here need a dancehall artiste to bring the crowd in. So I think reggae-dancehall has upgraded from just the street kind of thing to the corporate side, and we need to applaud that.”
He added that he is looking forward to embarking on a series of programmes in 2018, including the launch of his second album.
Epixode’s maiden album, titled ‘Spar Junkies’, was launched in 2016 and he hopes that his next will have an even greater impact this year.
The reggae-dancehall artiste also revealed that he hopes to finally launch his clothing and fashion line, adding that he plans to also organize an exhibition for the sale of his paintings in 2018.
