There is so much corruption in Ghana because the people are naturally born corrupt, Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has said.

Ghana scored only 43% in the 2016 corruption index from Transparency International making it one of the countries considered most corrupt in the world and there has been a long-standing debate on why corruption on why corruption.

Many are those who blame politicians for the endemic corruption in the country.

But according to Mr Agyapong, all Ghanaians all corrupt because the average citizen sets out on a day looking for someone to dupe which is a clear sign of bad mindset.

Our attitude and mindset as Ghanaians …..every time they are thinking of duping somebody”, he pointed out.

This bad attitude, he stated, has ensured the breaking down of systems put in place to check corruption people to cheat one another.

Instead of thinking of development for our nation, we are thinking of making ourselves rich at the expense of the poor”, Mr Agyapong lamented.

He further explained that, “when we talk of corruption it not only the politician taking money from the government coffers. ..it is also about the civil servants who cook the figures. An item that cost ten he agrees to make it hundred so he is also take part of it”.

Speaking in an interview with GHOne TV's Nana Aba Anamoah, he, however, admitted that there are a lot of corrupt politicians in the system while alleging that former National Democratic Congress (NDC) officials looted state funds and have used them to acquire properties in Dubai and other countries.

Now the safe haven is Dubai. I know all the NDC people with properties in Dubai. Although I’m against corruption, I don’t find a problem with a Ghanaian who has stolen and invest here in Ghana than those who steal and go and keep it in US, Europe and Dubai or wherever,” he added.
