- Family of Alhaji Bature say Mahama played a significant role in the last hours of Alhaji Bature's life
- John Dramani Mahama has been criticized for "ignoring" the funeral rites of top NDC official, Alhaji Bature
It has emerged that former president of the republic, John Dramani Mahama made a conscious effort in his power to prevent top journalist of the Alhajj Newspaper, Alhaji Bature, from dying.
YEN.com.gh is gathering that contrary to claims that the former president had "neglected" the funeral grounds of the top journalist for a unity match, close sources from both the family of Alhaji Bature and the NDC confirm that John Mahama facilitated for Alhaji Bature to be given critical medical attention at the Cardiothoracic department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital (KATH).
Following the public criticism of Mahama by an NDC activist, Dela Cofie, family of Alhaji Bature has issued a fierce press release.
“The contributions of His Excellency John Dramani Mahama; his brother, Mr Ibrahim Mahama and the Mahama family in general, from the day the late Alhaji Bature Iddrisu was admitted at the hospital, to the time of his death and its aftermath, are too great a virtue for the Iddrisu family to gross over. We believe the Mahama family came to the rescue of our late brother at the time he needed them most and the best way to reciprocate is to appreciate their kind gesture," the family revealed.
Dela Coffie described the disappearance of John Mahama at Bature's funeral as unexpected stating that "the lack of empathy is so shocking".
"The man he, (Alhaji Bature) defended with his life, toiled and "died for" is on a self-promotional tour ("unity walk"), amidst fanfare, pomp and pageantry, and without an ounce of respect to the fallen activist, couldn't the organisers of the so-called unity walk pushed it to a later date in honour of Alhaji's demise?," he quizzed.
The former Managing Editor of the Al-Hajj was also a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
His death comes as a big blow to many Ghanaians, especially when less than two months another journalist, Kwadwo Asare Baffour Acheampong (KABA) former late afternoon political show host of Asempa FM died and was also buried on December 16, 2017.
