The Ghana Music Industry has for the past years witnessed some ‘storms’ between colleague musicians and 2017 was no exception.
Under this year of review, some artistes were virtually at each other’s throat.
Others were able to settle their differences and move on but some of the issues kept reoccurring.
One celebrity who stands tall among the celebrities who are often fighting is self-acclaimed dancehall king, Shatta Wale.
He even extended this industry fight beyond the shores of Ghana when he attacked Nigerian superstars Wizkid, Patoranking and Timaya.
Here are some of the celebrities who had misunderstandings which later generated to feuds.
1. Shatta Wale vs. Samini: The two reggae/dancehall artistes have been fighting each other for many years now. This could be traced back to 2011 during Samini’s ‘Mavada Live in Concert’ in Ghana.
At that concert, Shatta Wale was unable to perform even though he had been billed to. He blamed the situation on Samini who according to Shatta Wale, deliberately prevented him from performing when he hijacked the stage with many hours of performance.
This led to a ‘serious’ fight and competition between the two who released ‘dissed’ songs against each other. Shatta Wale released ‘Megye Wo Girl’ featuring Sarkodie to mock Samini because he snatched his girlfriend.
However, beginning last year, Shatta Wale indicated that he was ready to put everything behind him with regards to Samini, and the two even hinted of working together. This seemed to have brought some calm between Samini and Shatta Wale until the feud was revisited again during the EIB Network’s S-Concert held on December 1, 2017.
Shatta Wale, according to reports intentionally jumped unto the stage when it was not yet his time to perform. His action prevented Samini from performing when it was his time to do so. Many people thought this was pay back time from Shatta Wale to the ‘Linda’ hitmaker. This new development rekindled the tension between the two artistes till the end of 2017.
However, beginning 2018, as controversial as he is, Shatta Wale sent a new year wish to Samini, asking him to forget whatever issues they had and forge together for a better 2018.
2. Shatta Wale vs.Stonebowy: Last year also witnessed the ‘fight’ between Shatta Wale and ‘Hero’ hit maker, Stonebwoy. Stonebowy’s rise as a good dancehall artiste was no good news to Shatta Wale who felt threatened.
In one of the many polls conducted by some entertainment enthusiasts, Stonebwoy was often voted for as the leading reggae/dancehall artiste in Ghana against Shatta Wale.
This did not go down well with Shatta and since then, he took every opportunity to throw jabs at Stonebwoy through music.
For instance, Shatta Wale is alleged to have composed his hit song ‘Taking Over’ to mock Stonebowy. In the song, he referred to Stonebowy as ‘Sergeant Lee’ while mimicking the ‘My Name’ singer’s way of walking (limping on one leg) whenever he performed that song on stage.
But during Stonebowy’s Ashaiman to the World Concert, Shatta Wale surprised fans and Stonebwoy by appearing at the event to perform together with Stonebowy on stage. That was a spectacular act by Shatta Wale and he was hailed for behaving that way. That singular act officially brought to an end the fight between the two.
3. Shatta Wale and Tic Tac: Tic Tac also tasted Shatta Wale’s beef in 2017. It all started when Tic Tac called on the police to arrest Shatta Wale after he allegedly fired some gun shots in public.
Shatta Wale was reportedly shooting in the air at Wizkid, Patoranking, and Timaya. He had earlier started his attack with Wizkid but the ‘On Top Your Matter’ singer till date, never responded to Shatta Wale’s ‘call for fight’.
Tic Tac wading into that matter angered Shatta Wale who as usual, started his verbal attack on the ‘Philomena’ hitmaker. He also ‘cursed’ Tic Tac by saying he would not be able to release any more hit song.
4. Yvonne Nelson vs. Berla Mundi: These two celebrities were the last to ‘fight’ just before the year 2017 ended. Yvonne Nelson trashed Berla on twitter, accusing her of dating a married man.
Berla had earlier discussed with her guests, Mz Gee and Sika Osei on her ‘Late Afternoon Show’ how Yvonne Nelson had broken a home by snatching someone’s husband and giving birth out of wedlock.
Angry Yvonne therefore descended on Berla Mundi and her guests describing them as clueless.
But the accusation that Berla was dating a married man came as a shock to some Ghanaians because Berla had indicated on many occasions that she is a virgin.
Some few days into 2018, Afia Schwarzenegger also added her voice, accusing Berla of dating one Mr. Adams who is a married politician.
5. Afia Schwarzenegger vs. Abrokwa: This was perhaps the biggest of all the celebrity fights which took place last year. The media personality was accused by her ‘ex-husband’ Abrokwa of cheating on him with another man when he caught them in their house.
He threatened to deform Afia’s face with a substance he had in a bottle which he claimed was acid. Abrokwa allegedly recorded nude photos and videos of Afia and subsequently released them to the public which were widely reported in the media.
Abrokwa was subsequently arrested and later released but Afia, born Valentina Agyeiwaa, and her estranged husband are currently battling in court.
While Abrokwa is praying the court to divide Afia’s property and share equally between them, Afia is accusing him of stealing her hard-earned cash and items belonging to the man she was caught with.
