- Some NSS personnel say they have not been paid their allowances
- The Executive director of NSS say all who don’t have allowances pay may be trying to defraud the scheme
Several national service personnel are trooping to the secretariat over the non-payment of their allowances for the past four months.
YEN.com.gh has gathered that most of these personnel have not been paid for the past two months.
Some of them who also spoke to the media revealed that they have run into debt and are also now relying on family and friends for financial support.
“I’m coming from Hohoe in the Volta Region and this is my second time here chasing the same issue. For four months, I have not received any of the month’s allowance. I have been borrowing since. The last time, I was asked to re-do the biometric registration which I did in December but still, I’m yet to receive my allowance,” a personnel stated.
Speaking on the issue, executive director of the National Service Scheme, Mustapha Ussif, insists that all national service personnel have been paid.
According to him, 98% of all NSS Personnel have been paid their monthly allowances and that all persons who were struggling to receive their allowances were persons who were attempting to defraud the scheme.
The Secretariat currently pays 559 cedis as a monthly allowance to personnel. The amount is an increase from the GHS350 which was being paid before April 2017.
