-A Chinese man has been arrested by police in Tema for slashing the hand of a Ghanaian working on his ship
-He allegedly committed the crime after hearing that the victim had stolen a carton of fish
A 45-year-old Chinese man is in the custody of the Marine, Railway and Port Unit of the Tema Regional Police Command for allegedly slashing the hand of a Ghanaian man.
The Chinese, Maxim Long, is the Chief Operating Officer of Maxim MV II while the victim, Abraham Arthur, 33, is a stevedore on the ship.
According to information gathered by YEN.com.gh, on January 9, 2018, at about 3:30 pm, a colleague accused Arthur of stealing a carton of fish.
The said colleague later reported the issue to the Chinese boss who slashed his [Arthur's] left hand after hearing the news of the alleged theft.
Arthur reported the incident to the Tema Fishing Harbour Police Station who arrested the suspect and issued with a police medical report form to attend hospital for treatment and examination.
The Public Relations Officer of the Regional Command, ASP Joseph Benefo Darkwah who confirmed this to the Daily Guide Newspaper said the suspect would be arraigned before a court after their investigations.
This incident follows some reported cases of abuse by foreign national employers, as in 2017, two cases of such abusive actions made headlines in the media.
The first was the case of a Marwako restaurant manager, who dipped his employee's face ground fresh pepper.
