Member of Parliament for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has lashed out at the Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO), describing the organization as bogus.
This comes after officials of EOCO invaded the offices of the Electoral Commission (EC) to force out Deputy Commissioner, Mrs Georgina Opoku Amankwaah.
At around 11:00 am on Monday, three officials from EOCO arrived at the office in the company of some armed police officers with an order to drive out the Deputy Commissioner from her office.
The EOCO is investigating Mrs. Opoku Amankwaah and Chief Accountant of the EC, Kwaku Owusu Agyei-Larbi on an alleged misappropriation of about GH¢480,000 from the Endowment Fund at the Commission.
The pair have since been asked to proceed on leave.
However, Kennedy Agyapong believes the EOCO have been unprofessional and unfair with their dealings.
He noted that Mrs. Opoku Amakwaah is not the only EC official being investigated and therefore wondered why she is the only one being pressured to proceed on leave by the EOCO.
Speaking on Adom TV’s ‘Badwam’ morning show, the lawmaker blasted the EOCO for their conduct, describing the organization as bogus.
“The principle by EOCO was wrong. EOCO is a bogus organization. They are very bias. I know there are officers who have been accused but why have they turned their guns on only one person. I don’t know that woman but I think they have not been fair to her,” the controversial MP said.
He added that some members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) government at the Flagstaff House are trying to protect the EC boss, Charlotte Osei, and have ended up making matters worse.
“NPP members are protecting and taking orders from EC boss; I don’t hate Charlotte Osei but her utterances and behavior is very bad and needs to be condemned. I know some small boys at the flagstaff house are influencing the situation and are only embarrassing the President.
“I receive calls from some judges telling me that some small boys at the flagstaff house are frustrating lawyers on the case and are making issues worse.”
