According to Fireman Songo, President Akufo-Addo "goofed" in his response to his question concerning the white paper report on Ghana's participation in the 2014 World Cup.

During the presidential meeting with the press on Wednesday, January 17, President Nana Akufo Addo stated he had forgotten about the white paper report on Ghana's 2014 World Cup participation, something Fireman Songo found disheartening.

On these matters, truth is usually the best answer. To be honest, I’ve forgotten about the 2014 White Paper but I have no doubt my Minister of Sports is fully up to it and will advise, in due course, what should be the reaction of me and the government to it, but it has not been something that is very much on my radar,” said the President.

The erstwhile Mahama-led government released a report calling for a probe into allegations that government lost a total of $1,002,000 during its games during the competition.

The report also recommended a probe into claims that the GFA used $350,000 received during Ghana's friendly match to offset the monies spent during the World Cup.

Speaking on his show "Fire for Fire" on Thursday, Fireman Songo expressed his disappointment at the President's response to his question.

To be honest, Mr President you goofed big time on this matter.

You were in this country when the taxpayer’s money was used to set up a commission and today you are saying to be honest you have forgotten about the report. Fire burn the president in a professional way," said Fireman Songo.

Fireman Songo went on to refer to the Sports Minister as "useless" for not having briefed the President on the matter.

According to the firebrand sports journalist, if President Akufo-Addo is interested in dealing with corruption then he ought to take the report seriously.

If, indeed, the president is interested in corruption, then he must take the white paper seriously because we are talking about something that borders on corruption,” he said.
