GBC Director General refuses to proceed on leave

- GBC's Director General has refused to heed a directive asking him to proceed on leave

- He says only the National Media Commission can ask him to proceed on leave

Dr. Kwame Akuffo Anoff-Ntow, Director General of the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), has reportedly refused to proceed on leave as recently directed by the institution's governing board.

The Ghana Broadcasting Corporation's Director General, Dr. Kwame Akuffo Anoff-Ntow, has officially refused to heed a recently directive given him by the corporation's governing board telling him to proceed on leave.

According to Dr. Anoff-Ntow, only the National Media Commission (NMC) has the right to appoint and or alter his terms of appointment.

In a letter addressed to GBC's governing board, Dr. Anoff-Ntow expressed that according to his terms of contract, the institution's governing board does not have the right to relieve him from office, and that he therefore could not adhere to its directive asking him to go on leave.

He went on to say that he could not act on the board's decision unless the NMC told him to do so.

The GBC board's decision to ask Dr. Anoff-Ntow to go on leave has also received criticism from the Ghana Journalist Association, which said the move was unconstitutional. It also asked the NMC to intervene in the situation.
