Gunmen on Sunday dawn attacked the Kwabenya Police in Station in Accra, to free seven suspects in police custody.
In the ensuing chaos, they shot one of the police officers on duty at the time and succeeded in freeing their colleagues.
The police officer, YEN.com.gh understands, is Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi who is believed to be in his late 40s.
YEN.com.gh checks suggest he hails from Galo, a village in the Keta Municipal area of the Volta Region.
Meanwhile the police service has revealed the identities of the seven escapees and urged the general public to help re-arrest them.
The suspects comprise of six Ghanaians and a Nigerian.
