University of Ghana Courses and requirements

There are many courses offered in The University of Ghana. With over 40 departments dedicated to different programmes, it offers more courses than any other university in the country. The University of Ghana courses offered are also marketable and most employers have trust in graduates from The University of Ghana.

University of Ghana Courses

Courses offered in the university of Ghana

The University of Ghana programs are broad and cover most of the fields that are in high demand and bring maximum benefit to the community. All the courses offered at The University of Ghana fall under four main disciplines namely: College of earth Sciences, Education, Basic and Applied Sciences and Humanities. Some of the courses offered include:

College of Health Sciences

Students here learn the basic anatomy and functioning of the human body. The students here are equipped with skills related to their area of expertise. They also are taught the science behind healthcare. Graduates from this field are assured to be assimilated directly to the society since medical care industry in Ghana and worldwide is a demanding sector.

University of Ghana Courses

They learn theoretically from class and use the knowledge gained during their practical sessions. Also during their fourth year, they are attached to various heath care institutions around the country in order to get familiarized with the practice.

College of Basic and Applied Sciences

Students in this field use scientific theories to come up with new inventions and technologies that is applicable to the society. They carry out research on various issues affecting the society at large and come up with developments to help solve this issues. It is more of a practical discipline since all the theory the students learn in class is transferred to the field.

All students in this discipline are expected to practice their own projects. They are supposed to develop inventions or improvements to modern technologies related to their specific courses. They are challenged to use the theory at their disposal to carry out research to show proof of whether existing theories are applicable or not.

University of Ghana Courses

Through this they are able to come up with new scientific ideas and even theories that can be applied in other disciplines. The discipline is taunted as the ‘mother of invention.’ Some of the courses offered by The University of Ghana that fall under this discipline include:

  • Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering
  • Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine
  • Bachelor of Science in Actuarial Science

College of Education

This discipline encompasses all the topics starting from primary, secondary and tertiary education. Students here are equipped with teaching skills. The discipline does not only manufacture teachers but there are other related areas of interest ranging from curriculum development, administration and policies and reform.

University of Ghana Courses

Any society in the world values the input of a teacher in the beginning of all careers. Also an educated society means a society with less prevalent problems that can be avoided by use of knowledge. The students are attached to learning institutions during their studies at the university.

College of Humanities

Students here are able to advocate for their democracy as they are able to understand the wrongs being in the society. Some of the related courses include:

University of Ghana Entry Requirements

For Undergraduate admission to courses offered in University of Ghana, students require at least credits (A1 – C6 in WASSCE and A – D in SSCE) in English and Core Mathematics and Integrated Science. Applicants for an Agriculture or Science related disciplines must have at least three elective subjects Science.

Applicants for non-Science related courses are required to have at least three elective subjects in General Art or Business. The total aggregate must not be exceeding 24. Also non-Science applicants require at least a grade C6 in WASSCE/D in SSSCE in Integrated Science or Core Science. The Science applicants for University of Ghana programmes should have at least grade C6 in WASSCE/D in SSSCE in Social Studies and Life skills.
