-Only one Ghanaian made the list of popular African celebrities on the social site, Facebook
A survey carried out by a Nigeria-based firm, CampsBay Sport Media, has revealed that one Ghanaian made the list of the most powerful celebrities in the whole of Africa last year.
According to the report made by CampsBay Media, the popularity of these Africans was based on just their Facebook following, not putting other social media websites into account.
The survey showed that Ghanaian actor, politician and entrepreneur, John Dumelo, was among the list of popular Facebook celebrities. The survey pegged his followers at about 5 million.
The actor made history in Ghana in April 2014, when another report emerged that he was the only celebrity from the West African country to have hit one million likes on Facebook.
His fan base has grown over four times the number in three years.
The achievement however placed him in the 8th position among the 10 powerful Africans on social media. He becomes the only Ghanaian to make the list; invariably making him the most powerful Ghanaian celebrity on social media last year.
According to the latest report, Senegalese rapper, Akon was the most followed and liked celebrity in Africa with a whopping 49 million likes on his page.
Cameroonian footballer, Samuel Eto'o took the second spot as the second most followed African on social media.
