-Former world champion, Joshua Clottey, has advised Emmanuel Tagoe against fighting Isaac Dogboe
-Clottey believes Tagoe will be at a disadvantage if he loses weight, which is the only way the to get the bout sanctioned
Ghanaian boxer, Joshua Clottey, has advised fellow boxer, Emmanuel Tagoe, not to engage in a bout with Isaac Dogboe as being suggested.
Clottey, a one-time world champion, believes will be dangerous for Tagoe to fight Dogboe because of the fact that he has to lose weight to make the bout possible.
There have been talks of a bout between Tagoe and Dogboe after the former knocked out Argentine, David Saucedo, to retain his IBO Lightweight title last Saturday.
The camp of Dogboe, who defeated Mexican Cesar Juarez earlier in January to become the Interim WBO Super Bantamweight champion, has warned of a defeat for Tagoe should the bout happen, a warning which has brushed off by his camp.
But speaking in an interview, Clottey agreed with the position of Dogboe's camp that such a bout would favour the Interim WBO Super Bantamweight champion.
Acording to him, Tagoe and Dogboe can only fight at the Super Featherweight (57-59kg) division which means Tagoe has to lose about two kilogrammes of his current which will negatively affect his firepower.
“Dogboe’s camp are making sense by saying if Tagoe wants to fight they will fight him at super featherweight, how can Tagoe make super featherweight?
“I kept on saying this doesn’t make sense, Tagoe can never make super featherweight, hell no, he will die in the ring. Dogboe will kill him.
"If Tagoe makes super featherweight he can’t even stand to fight, he will not get enough energy", Clottey reportedly told Ghanacrusader.com.
He thus advised Tagoe against the bout citing the example of Manny Pacquaio's fight with Oscar De La Hoya, in which the American lost weight to fight Pacquaio at Welterweight division and got beaten in his worst defeat ever.
“Tagoe can’t make the super featherweight, hell no, they have to be smart”, he insisted.
But it looks like Clottey's advise may fall on deaf ears as YEN.com.gh has learnt that both camps are already in talks for a possible fight in July.
