Popular Ghanaian actor, Ekow Smith-Asante is calling on media houses in Ghana to consider paying celebrities who appear on shows for interviews.
According to the actor, the appearance of celebrities on radio and television shows is another way of enriching the content of their programmes.
Speaking on Joy FM on Monday, Ekow argued that media houses charge celebrities heavy rates whenever they need to promote their products or services, but expect interviews free of charge.
The interview fees he says does not necessarily need to come in cash, but also on barter arrangements.
“The moment you invite a celebrity to your station, you should [pay them],” the actor said.
Ekow Smith Asante is one of Ghana’s experienced and influential actors who has played many roles in the local movie industry.
Although the Ghana movie industry is no longer lucrative, some actors and actresses are said to be exploring other business avenues in order to survive.
