The District Police Commander for Kwabre East and his officers allegedly bolted from the scene of a fight between some Zongo youth and Ashanti youth at Ahwiaa in the Ashanti Region.
The incident is reported to have occurred on Sunday, February 4, 2018, and resulted in dozens of injuries.
Calm has since returned to the town while the joint military and police personnel are still at the scene to make sure the incident is not repeated.
In a report by MyNewsGH, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area, Nana Osei Bonsu, stated that “the Zongo youth attempted to stab the District Commander with a knife and he had to run away.”
He went ahead to say that the youth were so determined to kill everyone and as such they not willing to spare the police officers.
The DCE revealed that inasmuch as it was a pathetic situation that alarmed everyone, his outfit is always ready to assist the police officers.
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Kwabre East, Francisca Oteng-Mensah, has meanwhile called for a probe into the clashes.
She opined that there is no justifiable cause for the conflict and as such there is the need for a thorough investigation into it.
