- The MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong has claimed that SSNIT is a phony institution
- According to him, retirees go through untold ordeals as they try to access their monies from the Trust
The Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyapong, has referred to the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) as a ‘bogus’ institution.
Speaking on Adom TV’s Morning Show “Badwam” on Tuesday February 6, 2018, the popular lawmaker asserted that SSNIT offers nothing substantive to Ghanaians, but exists only to frustrate pensioners in Ghana.
He further stated that SSNIT does little to ease the economic situation of retirees face after they had spent their productive years in service to the nation.
The outspoken MP indicated that all these treatments breeds corruption in the country.
“SSNIT is nothing to write home about; our pensioners are not treated well at all. They always feel insecure because of the treatment meted out to them, and that is the root cause of corruption in the country”, he stated.
He went ahead to wonder why the institution is unwilling to give workers who are paying their contributions a form of assurance.
According to the MP, it should not be lost on anyone that it was the little contributions of the pensioners to the pension scheme over the decades that helped SSNIT grow to its present status.
