The Accra Regional Police Commander, DCOP George Alex Mensah, has indicated that people who fall victims to thieves and pickpockets and end up losing their gadgets and other belongings at the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange did so out of carelessness.
Speaking in an interview with Accra-based Citi FM, the security head revealed that the thieves that were around the area popularly known as Circle hid at spots that were dimly-lit or had no illumination at all.
He advised road users to stay away from such places or risk falling prey to theft which had become rampant in that part of Accra.
DCOP George Alex Mensah added that Circle was not as dangerous as some people made it seem. He said many people there use their phones even at night and do not get robbed.
He added that most of the theft cases had something to do with carelessness on the part of the victims. He said the areas without lights were not safe and urged people to stay away from such spots.
Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, known widely by road users as Circle, is notorious for many reported theft cases that happen in Accra.
It is reported that some people are engaged in the illegal business of selling stolen phones to buyers at a reduced price.
The area is also noted to harbor petty thieves and con men who dupe many people who go there to do their business.
