Syphilis is the most dangerous sexual Transmitted Disease (STI). It is caused by a spirochete with spiral-shaped bacteria called Treponema Pallidum. Syphilis has an incubation period of an average of 21 days.
Signs and Symptoms of Syphilis in Man
Syphilis has stages with different symptoms but you should be aware that some symptoms may or may not show. These stages include primary, Secondary, Latent stage, and Tertiary stage.
It embarks with a sore, which is known as “chancre” on the exposed part of the infection, which is mostly the private area or the mouth area. Most patients describe the ‘chancre’ as firm, not tender, about half an inch and its round. Lymph nodes may also have swells that are not tender.
The primary stage has few early symptoms in males. The sore disappears in about 4 weeks time and the infected person takes the signs lightly though it spreads in the rest of your body. Seeking medication at this early stage is the best and the appropriate time before it gets intense. If you don’t seek treatment it moves to the second stage.
You feel sick, maybe a headache, loss of appetite, have rashes or achiness. An indication that the bacteria has spread to the rest of your body.
You will start having non-itchy rashes that are mostly reddish brown in appearance. Most patients with syphilis describe the rashes. Others say there are scaly, others pustules, others flat and some even say that they didn't get any the rashes. These symptoms vary because the rash can last between weeks or months.
- Sores in the mouth, throat, nose, on the private areas or the folded parts of the skin
- Swelling of the lymph nodes is very common
- Occurrence of patchy hair loss
The worst bit of this STI is that the symptoms will also disappear in an average time of 9 months. Remember that the infection will still spread in your body, get treatment.
This stage takes over with no signs but the disease can still be diagnosed in you.
This is the final stage of syphilis. Most of your body organs have the STI infection. The common symptoms include:
- Non-healing skin ulcers
- Liver disease
- Bone pain
- Symptoms of syphilis mental can appear because the nervous system is affected.
- An aorta infection that results to the heart disease.
