Facebook has garnered a wide acceptance and usage in the modern era. We live in the internet era and Facebook tries to keep us connected via the internet.

So who is the owner of this giant social media service?

One would not be mistaken to answer who owns Facebook as Mark Zuckerberg as the owner of Facebook; after all, it is his creation.

Mark was introduced into computers at a young age by his father. As one writer would say it, Mark had friends who enjoyed playing games, Mark created the games. He acquired various accolades as he grew; he later joined Harvard between 2002 and 2004.

This first version of Facebook was created by Mark, Saverin, Andrew McCollum, Dustin Moskivitz and Chris Hughes. Mark realized the potential of Facebook and decided to take it to a whole new level. They shared with neighbor universities and later went global such that by 2012, it had over 1 billion users.

Facebook’s success had attracted tech giants as Microsoft, Yahoo, and Google before it had been listed in the public domain. However, Facebook were not ready to let go of their most precious innovation and so all were rejected.

When it went public in 2012, the company was valued at $100 billion. The listing was in an effort to raise $5 billion in funds.

Those who own Facebook Company have ensured they remain afloat in the social internet industry by buying out its competitors. Facebook acquired Instagram in 2012 in a reported $ billion. WhatsApp followed next in 2014 for a value of $ 19 billion.

Facebook however, failed to acquire Snapchat, a rival social company in 2014.

The same goes with Facebook with the majority shareholder being renowned Mark Zuckerberg. He is the co-founder, CEO and chairman at Facebook. His net worth at Facebook is valued at 28% of the entire Facebook stock.

Following in the hierarchy are investors; Accel partners controlling 10%, Digital Sky Technologies with a 5.4%, Peter Thiel is an angel investor with 2.5% of Facebook, Microsoft owns 1.6%, Greylock partners 1.5%, Meritech Partners owns 1.5%, Elevation partners 1.5%, and Goldman Sachs at 1%.
