On Saturday evening, unknown assailants shoot down a 31 year old Mobile Money operator at Kronom-Kyeraasi in the Afigya Kwabre District of the Ashanti Region which is the last attack that took place regarding such business.
News confirmed by the Kodie District Police Command to Citi News.
There were two gunmen on a motorbike who shot Richmond Ofori twice. A man who is also known as Papa Yaw had died instantly. Papa’s friend, Malik Ezekiel who is a 25 year old also got shot in the legs. Malik is currently admitted at the Komfor Anokye Teaching Hospital. It is said that the shooters escaped with the unspecified amount of money.

Michael Adu Poku who is the Assembly Member for Kyekyere-Kyeraase Electoral had also stated to Citi News that the mobile money operator was dead on arrival, as said to him at the hospital. He further stated that no one gave attention to the assailants as everybody’s attention turned to the victims directly. The body of the deceased has been taken for autopsy.
George Alex Mensah discloses the need for the banks to be much more secured, states the importance of Police Officers presence at the banks.
DCOP George Alex Mensah who is the Accra Regional Police Commander has stated the increasing number of attacks across the country especially on the mobile money operators. He stated that with the limited number of Police Service it is very much impossible to provide security cover up to the businesses. Mensah further stated that the location of the mobile money operation points are to be regulated properly again. Mensah further mentioned the need of a police officer at the banks, he stated that the banks cannot be opened if the police officer doesn’t reach by 8 O’ Clock.
