Kennedy Agyapong exposes Agric Minister

- Hon. Kennedy Agyapong has expressed concerns over government's claims of 750,000 informal jobs in the agriculture sector.

- He said the 745,000 figure is a lie

- He said even the US hasn't been able to do so under President Trump

The Member of the Parliament (MP) for the Assin Central Constituency, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, has questioned the veracity of the claims made by the Food and Agriculture Minister that 745,000 jobs have been created in the agriculture sector.

Speaking in an interview with the new presenter of Adom FM's Ekosii Sen, Philip Osei Bonsu on Tuesday, Hon. Kennedy Agyapong expressed that even the United States of America hasn't been able to achieve this under President Trump.

Even US under Trump who have 300,000 million people created 200,000 jobs, so how did we in Ghana create 745,000... The 745,000 jobs is a lie, I still maintain my position. It cannot be true… We are still working, but we shouldn’t lie to the people. As for jobs Nana Akufo Addo will create but we must not lie," he said.

According to Hon. Kennedy Agyapong, the 745,000 jobs figure is simply too high.

The controversial Member of Parliament is known to have previously expressed that should government employ this many people, it would have a huge impact.

"If you employ this huge number as a result of the programme, the impact it will create in this economy, will be huge, me I can’t defend this,” he said in an interview on Adom TV weeks ago.

It will be recalled that Ghana's Minister for Food and Agriculture, Hon. Owusu Afriyie Akoto, told members of the media during a press conference that although government aimed at creating 750,000 jobs in rural labor, it was only able to create 745,000.

"The Planting for Food and Jobs campaign has absorbed this [rural] labour to the extent that we targeted 750,000 rural labour but we were able to generate 745,000 jobs and these jobs are unofficial jobs," the minister stated.
