Financial complications forced the owners of the young club to abandon ship. It was salvaged in 1902 with the new owner renaming it Manchester united. He moved his club later in 1910 to occupy what is currently, the Old Trafford Stadium.
Since then, the club has continuously grown, however, its financial complications never stopped. It was listed as a publicly traded company in the 90s.

Not lasting long in the public’s hands, investors saw the potential of the club and they injected a new string of capital, buying its shares in an effort to privatize the Manchester based club.
American Real Estate Billionaire Malcolm Glazer bought the club in 2005 in a reported £800 million deal. The majority of shares he owned made the club to be privatized again. Something the Manchester faithful did not relent.
They were not happy with who owned Manchester United and thus they formed a revolutionary club; F.C United of Manchester in 2005.
The Glazers did however, re-list the club as a publicly traded company by enlisting it at the NYSE in 2012. When Malcolm died in 2014, though the ownership of the Manchester club was not jeopardized, one of his sons Edward sold all his shares of the club erasing his name from the list of those who own Manchester United now.
