- President Akufo-Addo will deliver the keynote address at the Conference in Nigeria
- Nana Addo will return to Ghana on Thursday, February 15, 2018, with vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia serving as acting President in his absence
President Akufo-Addo has departed for Nigeria to attend a two-day International Conference on Transformative Governance in Africa.
He left the country on Wednesday, February 14, 2018, a statement from the Flagstaff House said.
Director of Communications at the Presidency, Eugene Arhin, said the President’s travel to Nigeria is due to an invitation by the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Sokoto, Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah.
The President is expected to deliver the keynote address at the Conference, on the theme, “How to make Democracy work for Africa.”
The statement added that Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia will serve as acting president in his absence.
President Akufo-Addo is, however, expected to return to Ghana on Thursday, February 15, 2018.
Meanwhile, Nigerian President, Muhammadu Buhari will also head to Ghana in March to witness Ghana’s 61st Independence Day celebrations.
