-YEA has disclosed that its contract with Zoomlion will not be renewed
- A process to select new providers for its sanitation module will be opened in June
The Youth Employment Agency (YEA) is receiving applications for persons working under its sanitation module to reapply by March 2018
This follows a decision by management not to extend the contract of Zoomlion Ghana, the waste management company engaged to implement the module, YEN.com.gh has learnt.
According to YEA, a bid will be opened in June for new providers, per the YEA Act and Legal Instrument (LI).

Addressing a Press conference on Wednesday, 21 February 2018, the Chief Executive Officer of YEA, Justin Koduah Frimpong, criticised the current arrangement with Zoomlion.
“Management is committed to the president’s vision of ensuring value for money, putting the youth at the centre of our development agenda, ensuring transparency and accountable governance and of course maintaining a clean and healthy environment.
“Of the 38, 884 [beneficiaries under the sanitation module] most of them were recruited without recourse to the Youth Employment Agency,” he noted
He continued “there were no appointment letters issued to these beneficiaries, a practice we consider unacceptable. The service provider (Zoomlion), has still up to date been unable to furnish the agency with the payment records of beneficiaries on their payroll.”
Mr Frimpong further explained that “each beneficiary is paid a GHS100 while GHS400 goes to the service provider as management fees.”
For him the development is an “affront to beneficiaries of the programme.”
The move follows an audit by management and board of the sanitation module.
