There have been many interesting happenings in the country since the year 2018 began, and some of these happenings are quite notable for many reasons and for the impact they have had on society.

These happenings range from notable political events, sports, entertainment and general lifestyle, and they are topping the trending topics list on social media.

It goes a long way to buttress the importance of the internet but more importantly, the importance of some of the things that have taken place in Ghana in the first 2 months of the New Year.

Some of the happenings in the country over the last two months have been controversial, disastrous, beneficial and some even scandalous.

1. Ebony Reigns’ death and matters arising

On February 8 this year, it was reported that multiple award-winning dancehall act, Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, known in showbiz as Ebony died in a car crash with 2 others. After the deaths were reported, many issues surfaced.

According to reports, a Woman of God claimed she would be able to ‘resurrect’ the musician on the condition that she was not placed in the mortuary.

Some rumors were also made surrounding the 2 other people who died along with the singer, Franky Kuri and Lance Corporal Francis Atsu Vondee.

At the One Week Observance of the “Date Ur Fada” hitmaker however, dancehall act, Shatta Wale is reported to have angrily jabbed media personnel for constantly criticizing the late singer.

Ebony Reigns would be laid to rest on March 17 but her close friend and PA, Franky Kuri would be buried on March 3.

There seems to be an ongoing war of words between actresses Efia Odo and Fella Makafui with the former accusing the latter of sleeping around for money. In the wake of the controversy, musician Sista Afia has waded into the ‘altercation’ and has wickedly attacked Efia Odo.

According to Sista Afia, Efia Odo was so broke that she could not even afford to buy paint to beautify her own home.

In a related development, female comedian, Heiress Jacinta has taken a swipe at all three Ghanaians female celebrities over the misunderstanding brewing among them for the past few days.

3. Shatta Wale’s ‘doom prophecies’

After the untimely and unfortunate demise of dancehall act Ebony Reigns, a prophet came out to allege that self-proclaimed dancehall king of Ghana, Charles Nii Armah Mensah was next in line to lose his life.

The “Dem Confuse” hitmaker in a ‘nasty’ reply said he was going to burn down churches should the prophecy about his life not come to pass by December.

Not long after that, the musician was seen on Val’s Day leading prayers for protection against ‘premature’ death.

Both parents of the award-winning artiste have come out to vehemently refuse the words of the said Man of God and have promised to take whatever action they felt legal and necessary to deal with the ‘doom sayers’.

Two groups of ladies are at ‘war’ over comments made by a young lady in relation to a wife cooking for a husband. Some feminists in the country are reported to have indicated that it was considered slavery for a wife to cook for her husband.

In a sharp rebuttal, ace radio presenter, Vim Lady formed a group made up of women who were ready to pamper men if and only if their actions were going to be reciprocated by the men. As a result, Vim Lady and her friends organized a feast for all men who were interested in being fed. They cooked and served free meals to the men as a way of teaching the ladies who considered cooking a slavery a 'bitter' lesson.

5. Ghana Law School examination “Mass Bombing”

It has been reported that more than 80% of the students who sat for this year’s Law Examinations failed woefully. According to the statistic, only about 91 students out of over 500 who sat for the examinations passed.

In the aftermath of this record ‘bombing’ the Student’s Representative Council (SRC) of the school are calling for a total cancellation of the entire results.
