‘Black panther’ the movie was one of the most awaited movies of 2018 and especially in Kenya. The Black Panther trailer was released and it made people, especially Kenyans, excited. What even made Kenyans more excited was when the Black Panther release date (January 29th 2018) was announced. It was a day Kenyans were eager to see.
The whole country was ecstatic. This is because the country had learnt from the Black Panther trailer that one of their own will star in the movie. And one city in particular was more than ecstatic; the atmosphere in that particular city during the Black Panther premiere could not be explained. The joy that it brought to the people of Kisumu city was unimaginable.
Kisumu had the honor of being the first city in Africa that the movie was premiered. And you would ask why Kisumu? Why not any other city in Africa? Well, just in case you didn't know, the infamous Lupita Nyong'o, one of the main actors in the Black Panther cast is a Kisumu girl. She is A Kenyan girl who, in addition to being of a Luo descent (the tribe that t predominantly occupies Kisumu), is the daughter of the Kisumu Governor.
The Black Panther 2018 premier in Kisumu saw people attend n their hundreds. This was a large number. The absence of the actors did little to dampen the attitude of the crowd towards the movie itself.

The Black Panther movie got a lot of positive reviews all over the world as being the first of its kind to fuse African culture with science fiction. This move made Africans proud of the culture as they saw African tradition being used to visualize the future. An African, futuristic movie.
Africans value tradition, and the fact that the villain was punished in the end means that the African values are incorporated into the script of a largely African-themed movie.
The Black Panther marvel movie featured a wide array of beautiful African themed costumes. The costumes were a source of pride to Africa, and more so Kenya because one of their own wore some amazing African costumes. She represented Kenya and Africa at large. People went as far as having some costumes remade for them. The movie made Africans proud of their heritage and they saw that the future was not just full of white people and aliens; Africa is part of the future too.
How best could Hollywood appreciate Africa and its heritage? They gave us the movie of the year. Black Panther was truly something to behold!
