‘Proudly Ghanaian’ is a term that many people like to frequently use in this part of the world. However, not all persons have actually lived up to the phrase.
There are times when you find yourself among other nationals and you feel so inferior. And there are also other times when you are in the same situation yet you exude so much confidence and feel proud of your nation.
There is a thin line between those two aforementioned situations and the difference is simply 'impact'.
Some Ghanaians have made so much impact that it is very difficult to ignore them when talking about anything.
As a result, their accomplishments can only make you feel proud when you find yourself among other nationals.
Here are 5 people who will make you proud to be Ghanaian:
1. Kofi Annan
Former United Nations (UN) General Secretary, Kofi Annan is one of the most respected figures across the globe.
Kofi Annan displayed true competence and enthusiasm during his time with the UN and that is a feat that makes everyone proud to be Ghanaian.
For a man whose name is held in so high in esteem even outside West Africa, you cannot do much but just admire his efforts and path of excellence.
2. Abraham Attah
Young actor Abraham Attah might still be a long way from reaching his peak, but he has already made each and every Ghanaian very proud with his craft.
The 16-year-old has risen from height to height after starring in the award-winning movie 'Beast of No Nation', along with Idris Elba.
Abraham Attah has since been featured in the recent Spiderman: Homecoming movie and is now a Hollywood star, having moved to the United States. His exploits at such a tender age is a proud moment for every Ghanaian.
3. Prof. Allotey
Prof. Allotey is widely celebrated for his in-depth knowledge when it comes to mathematical questions, and has received acknowledgement for his feat both locally and internationally.
The renowned Mathematician, who died this year, was always held in high esteem in Ghana, and was appointed to several top posts during his youthful years.
He also served as chairman of some big companies in the country, including the Atomic Energy Commission, the Ghana Technical Committee on Nuclear Energy and the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences. You can only be proud of such a man.
4. Prof. Frimpong Boateng
Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng is a Ghanaian physician and cardiothoracic surgeon whose impact is unmatched.
The doctor became the first man to perform an open-heart surgery in Ghana using the heart-lung-machine.
He has also been involved in a number of efforts to support the health sector, including setting up the National Cardio Thoracic Centre and the Ghana Red Cross Society.
Prof. Frimpong Boateng’s name cannot be mentioned without Ghana being attached to itand that makes every Ghanaian proud of him for his remarkable exploits.
5. Dr. Kwame Nkrumah
The best, they say is always left for the last, and that sort of ‘best’ would definitely go to Dr. Kwame Nkrumah.
The late Politician founded Ghana and led the then Gold Coast to independence in 1957 following years of colonial rule under the British.
He was also responsible for the development and eruption of many other African countries due to his foresight and determination to see a united continent.
Discussing Dr. Nkrumah’s impact will be days without ever ending, but in short, this is a man who gave Ghana a lift on the international scene and till date his name lives.
