The Ghana Police Service (GPS) has announced the arrest of the suspected leader of an all-female gang.
A statement signed and issued by the Assistant Superintendent of Police, Olivia Turkson, revealed that the suspected thieves specialize in merchandize.
According to the police, the fraudsters approach traders and consequently engage them in a conversation, as if to bargain for their products.
They thereafter escape without paying for the items, which are usually air conditioners, folding chairs, cooking oil and alcoholic beverages.
The police further disclosed that the gang usually operates around Tesano, Achimota and other commercial places in parts of Accra.
Their leader, who goes by various names such as Mary Sewaa Afedzi, Rosemary Amoah, Araba and Cotton One, is alleged to have been involved in multiple fraud cases in a similar manner.
The police therefore urged the public, especially those who had fallen victim to such persons to come to the Commercial Crime Unit (CCU) of the CID Headquarters to identify the suspected leader of the fraudsters.
The police further advised the public to be diligent in the course of business transactions as anyone could become a victim.
