A police officer, Constable Vincent Ahakutor, and a security man, Benjamin Boah, has been placed in police custody following the theft of items from a Credit Union.
The policeman, who was stationed at Wa in the Upper West region, was apprehended for deserting his post, an act which paved way for the security man to take the items from the premises.
In a report by MyNewsgh.com, a 42″ Samsung TV set, a LUOJIA motorbike with registration number M-16-UW 6055 and two decoders belonging to the Wa Credit Union were stolen on Saturday, February 24, 2018.
Boah, who works with Eden Security, a private security company, allegedly broke into the building at the time Ahakutor had deserted his post.
Information available to YEN.com.gh shows that Boah then slashed himself with a knife and reported that he had been attacked by armed robbers.
He is alleged to have stated that the armed men, wielding a locally manufactured pistol and a knife, blindfolded him and then took the keys to the building from him.
He went on to say that the robbers then made away with the items from the Credit Union, after subjecting him to severe beatings.
According to him, his arm, back and parts of his boy were slashed with a knife, after which he was abandoned at Bamahu a suburb of Wa. He was arrested as he sought to move the items to a safer location.
Ahakutor was consequently arrested by the police in order to assist with investigations.
It was then revealed that he deserted his post on the day of the crime, and that gave Boah the opportunity to take the items.
