Abena Korkor relates her experience regarding mental health stigmatization

Abena Korkor, a Ghanaian mental health advocate who's struggle with bipolar disorder has gotten her into some scandalous situations in the past, says she was heavily trolled on social media during her manic episodes.

According to Abena Korkor, who is popularly known by her social media handle, LencyOnFire, expressed that a lot of people on social media are ignorant of the effects of mental issues, and thus resorted to making fun of her.

Speaking on the Late Afternoon Show, Abena Korkor told show host, Berla Mundi, that she realized social media users' ignorance regarding mental health and tried to educate them.

Abena Korkor lamented the way mental health patients are stigmatized in Ghana, although she related that she received a lot of supports from her Dean of students, friends, and family during her episodes.

Abena also recounted her first experience with Bipolar Disorder, where she boarded a bus headed to Accra at dawn in Cape Coast with no money.

Abena Korkor is currently at the helm of Psychosocial Africa, a mental health advocacy with the mission to campaign against the stigmatization of mental health patients.

The group also aims to provide help and counselling for sufferers.
