- 500g of plain flour
- Warm water (about 300ml)
- 100g of butter
- One tablespoon of yeast

- One teaspoon of vanilla bean paste
- 3/4 tablespoon of grated nutmeg
- Four tablespoons of sugar
- Two free-range eggs to be beaten
- A pinch of salt
- Cooking oil

- Put the warm water in a large clean bowl and start adding the ingredients. Add the yeast and two tablespoons of sugar first and let the mixture settle for about 20 minutes. Once the mixture has foamed, add vanilla paste and the remaining tablespoon of sugar.
- Using a different bowl, sift the flour, nutmeg, baking powder, and salt. Form a tiny well in the middle of the mixture and gently add the flavoured yeast solution.
- Add the melted butter to the flour mixture, beat the eggs, and then add the yeast mixture into the flour mix.
- Mix everything nicely and ensure that no lumps are visible on the paste.
- Cover the dough with a damp piece of cloth and gently place it in a warm area. Let the mixture rest for about 2 hours. You will notice that it has increased in size after this.
- Place your cooking pan on fire and pour the oil. Have the heat on medium.
- Spoon the mixture using either your hands or tablespoon as you deep them into the cooking oil.
- Turn them every once in a while as they fry in oil until they turn golden brown.
- Remove the bofort from the cooking oil and place them on a different bowl until they cool before serving.
