4 things Ghana is yet to achieve 61 years after Independence

This year Ghana will be celebrating the 61st anniversary of its Independence from British colonial powers all the way back in 1957.

But while the necessity for Ghana to be able to determine its own fate through independence can never be overstated, many believe that Ghana still has a lot to do before it can truly be proud of what it has done with it.

YEN.com.gh put together a list of things some Ghanaians believe Ghana is yet to achieve after 61 years of independence.

Potable drinking water in all major cities

Like many other African countries, Ghana is yet to establish a water distribution system that would ensure safe, potable drinking water in all of the country's major cities. Though many Ghanaians do drink tap water, a majority of Ghanaians living in major cities still prefer to consume sachet or bottled water rather than risk drinking water that could cause them some harm.

Improved healthcare

Many countries, including some first world countries, still struggle to provide affordable healthcare for their most vulnerable citizens, and Ghana is definitely not a exempt from this fact. Though major leaps have been made in this respect, still more needs to be done to ensure that the most vulnerable can have good healthcare.

Foreign aid

Gladly, this is something President Akufo-Addo seems to be very dedicated to. With all the natural - and human - resources Ghana possesses, many believe that Ghana should be able to wean itself from its dependence on foreign aid.

Quality education system

Though Ghana's education system has seen some major improvement over recent years, many schools still suffer from a lack of basic resources. Many schools in rural areas still come have students studying in uncompleted buildings, or under trees.
