Thousands of Ghanaians are currently at the Independence Square in Accra to commemorate the celebration of the event.
Dubbed "Ghana beyond aid", the event will see the president touch on the progress being made by government to address the issue of depending on aid for development.
This year's event will see the president of Nigeria, Buhari, also attend plus other high political officials and also members of the diplomatic corps.

Before appearing at the Independence Square, Nana Addo also launched the Ghana at 61 logo saying that it was very timely as a nation to achieve economic independence.
President Buhari is expected to address the independence parade. A statement by the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesin shows that President Buhari will use the event to reaffirm the long-standing warm relations between the peoples and governments of both nations.
The president and his delegation, which includes, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, and the National Security Adviser, Babagana Monguno, will return to Abuja after the celebrations on Tuesday.
