Brain tumour is a condition that is caused by cancerous or non-cancerous mass or growth of abnormal cells in the brain.
The condition has the ability to blur the sight of an affected person or, in worse cases, make the person completely blind if early treatment is not sought.
Leticia was diagnosed with the condition two years ago, but has not been able to raise the required amount to seek medical attention.
Her story was first brought to public notice by one Amissah Elias, who shared Leticia’s sad story on his Facebook wall.
Elias narrated how hapless Leticia’s situation is, with her mother left with no other choice than to keep her at home for lack of money to seek treatment.
“Yesterday, I drove from Accra to Bekwai in Kumasi to visit Leticia Nyamekeh Ackah. She requires brain surgery to treat tumour that is now causing her to lose her vision,” he wrote.
“It was emotional for me, given it was the first time I was doing something like this. Her mom cried as she narrated the ordeal they have been through for the past two years.
“I did see for myself the report of the doctors and the scans that was done. Most of all, I noticed how Leticia, despite smiling, couldn't read as I tried to show her my Facebook wall.”
He added that Leticia and her mum have been able to raise GHc 50,000, whiles donors on Facebook have also contributed GHc 30,000 to help the cause.
However, the accrued sum is still a bit short of the money required for Leticia to undergo surgery to treat her brain tumour.
She is, therefore, appealing to the general public to support and help her raise the remaining money – which is another GHc 30,000 – to undergo surgery.
Elias, who has taken it upon himself to help raise the remaining money for Leticia’s treatment, added: “We are close but we are not there yet. We require about another GHS 30,000 more to be sure we got all expenses covered up and get Leticia back to great health.
“I am appealing that you share this and also go through my wall for more on the story. You can make your contribution to MTN number 0554479747 (registered Elias Amissah).”
