Ghanaian celebrities, John Dumelo and Desmond Blackmore, popularly known as D-Black, have engaged in a political debate on social media over Ghana’s budget for the 61st Independence Day celebrations.

In a tweet by John Dumelo, the actor opined that, “On 2nd thoughts, there’s nothing to celebrate. Pupils lie on their stomachs to study in Yikurugu, UER [Upper East Region], teachers teach IT with no computers all over the country etc. Yet we budget millions to celebrate 6th March? Ghana without aid starts with us getting our priorities straight.”

In reacting to the claims made by John Dumelo, D-Black said that, “The government didn’t budget millions to celebrate Ghana Independence this year bros. Presido said nope! No need. However, last 2,3,4,5 years ago.”

John Dumelo who did not seem happy about the musician’s comment came back to question D-Black over his rebuttal with, “You know the budget?”

To this, D-Black, who is purported to have declared support for the NPP in the 2016 General Elections said, “Budget for...? What actually is going on?...What exactly is the government doing...? Bro this is the quietest Ghana Independence I’ve seen in years.”

D-Black went on to explain that the 61st Independence Day celebration was the ‘quietest’ he had seen in years unlike the extravagance that was noted with previous celebrations.

Meanwhile, a few days ago, John Dumelo took to his Twitter account to “attack” President Nana Akufo-Addo over the alarming number of robbery cases that had rocked some parts of Accra.

His tweet read, “Dear @NAkufoAddo, the insecurity in Ghana is becoming alarming. From Oyibi to Industrial area and now Tema. Citizens are being killed. Who knows where they will strike next. Ghana is looking up to you. Please make us all feel safe. Regards from Hohoe.”
