- She was interviewed on March 8, 2018, on the occasion of International Women’s Day
- Yvonne disclosed that she has less time to spend on negative reports
Ghana’s own Yvonne Nelson was a guest on the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Africa on Thursday, March 8, 2018.
The occasion was International Women’s Day which is observed worldwide.
While on the show, the popular ‘Heart of Men’ star opened up on her personal life and also some struggles she had to deal with on her journey to becoming the star actress she is now.
Yvonne also spoke on the need for women, particularly in Africa, to be supported, and given opportunities which would make the world “believe in them more.”
According to Yvonne Nelson, she did not have it easy while trying to make a mark for herself in the movie industry.
She revealed that many were the movie producers who demanded sex as a basis of giving her roles to act in movies.
The mother of one disclosed further, that while that menace was and is still prevalent in the industry, she never agreed to “go down” with any producer before being given a role.
Yvonne explained that she knows her value and talent as an actress, therefore she allowed those attributes to speak for her rather than the “tonga for roles” demand from producers.
Touching on her personal life, Yvonne said she has developed a tough skin for negativity
According to her, she is a very positive person, therefore, she does not allow negativity and bad talk from people and the media to get to her.
Perhaps, Yvonne might have developed that tough skin from her experience with Ghanaians sometime ago when reports were rife that she was pregnant.
The actress hid her pregnancy and delivery from the public eye till she made it public herself on her birthday in November.
She was hugely criticized by Ghanaians for hiding her pregnancy, and also for having a child out of wedlock.
Notwithstanding the pressure, Yvonne Nelson stood her grounds to defend herself, her pregnancy, and baby daddy, Jamie Roberts, a British fashion photographer.
Their social media posts have shown how deeply in love with each other.
