Ghanaian actress Yvonne Nelson has disclosed that she has countlessly come across producers who wanted to sleep with her before giving her a movie role.
The star actress has been into acting for over a decade now, having also won numerous plaudits for her flawless acting skills.
The mother-of-one granted an interview to the BBC on Thursday to discuss some of the troubles that actresses go through at the hands of producers.
Yvonne revealed that movie producers passing advances at actresses is a common thing in the industry, insisting she has been faced with such situations many times.
She said some producers try to sleep with the actresses in exchange for a movie role, but stressed that the onus lies with the actress involved to be able to stand her feet.
“It happens a lot in the industry. It’s quite a controversial question but you know I’ve met producers on productions sets and they’ve tried to make a few advances here and there,” the actress told the BBC.
She added that women must begin to speak out and have the courage to reject the advances of such unscrupulous producers.
According to her, actresses must know their value and must quickly walk away when confronted with such situations rather than succumb to it.
“My thing is that if somebody wants to do that, just walk away because I know my value, I know what I bring to the table, I know that hey, you called me for the job and I know I can nail it so if you know that you want something in exchange, I’m sorry,” Yvonne asserted.
The award-winning actress is in a relationship with a London-based Welsh photographer Jamie Roberts. The two are blessed with a lovely daughter called Ryn.
