- A female colleague of teacher reported to have been awarded for walking 42km to and from school has rubbished the claim
- She revealed that the said teacher did not live more than 10 km from the school
- The female colleague added that the teacher rode on a motorbike to and from school each day
A female colleague, speaking on the condition of anonymity, has refuted claims that a colleague of hers in the same school walked a total of 42 kilometers to school to teach every day.
Speaking in an interview with Mynewsgh.com, the teacher said that her colleague was not being truthful and that she was shocked after the news went viral and stirred debate on social media.
Awudu Kombian, the teacher in question, according to reports, served as the only teacher for the Warvi D/A primary school and for such ‘heroic’ efforts, was awarded with a standing fan by the Tolon District Assembly.
The colleague of the awardee went on to reveal that Awudu Kombian rode a motorbike to school each day.
She added that Awudu Kombian did not also live more than 10 kilometers from the school, making his story a rather ‘unbelievable’ one.
The news which went viral on social media made many people question the District Assembly’s motive of awarding the ‘dedicated’ teacher with a standing fan instead of the motorbike or even a bicycle.
Even though many people found it hard to believe the story, the reporter, Eliasu Mohammed Tanko, revealed that he was skeptical about the claim made by the teacher but still went ahead with his story.
He went on to defend the story after he said his focus was on the distance since he was aware that the district did not have good roads leading to Warvi D/A primary school.
Social media users were shocked day after Ghana’s 61st Independence Day celebration when it was reported that a teacher who reportedly walked 42 kilometers to school was rewarded with a standing fan.
The news generated national debate and it even appeared on some international news websites.
