The Ashanti Regional Chairman of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi, has warned the National Democratic Congress (NDC) that he has the power to determine who becomes thei constituency and national level executives of the opposition party.
Addressing a gathering of NPP executives at Agona in the Afigya Sekyere East Constituency, he said he can influence who wins and who loses when the NDC organize their internal elections later this year.
Chairman Wontumi was on a three-day tour of the Ashanti region and took the opportunity to meet with all the NPP constituency executives of the region.
The NPP’s Ashanti regional chairman was overwhelmingly endorsed by all 47 constituency executives in the region in his bid to for a second term at post.
According to Wontumi, his unnoticed influence on the top hierarchy and grassroots of the NDC contributed to the party's abysmal showing at the 2016 general elections.
He further stated that he aims at helping the NPP to stay in office far longer than the customary eight years that parties are normally afforded.
He pledged to lead the party to break that jinx by staying in power beyond the 2024 elections, adding that it is his biggest ambition.
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) is set to go to the polls from the July 27 to 29, 2018 to elect their national executives to lead the party in the upcoming 2020 general elections.
This was made known when the party released a time table for its upcoming internal elections.
