Founder and general overseer of the International Central Gospel Church, Mensa Otabil is, according to research ranking in 2017, an influential and powerful pastor in Ghana.
Being in the business or calling of preaching the word of God to millions of Ghanaians across the country, Mensa Otabil has become one of the few powerful Ghanaians with the strength to shape the thoughts and minds of the country's population.

We have seen and felt this power by Dr. Otabil over the years as he asked fierce questions about Ghana's governance system and also challenged the status quo of bureaucracy, corruption, partisan politics and injustice.
The outspoken pastor has succeeded in shaping national conversations on major issues like elections or a debate on same-sex marriage.
Although the political affiliation of the pastor has not been revealed, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) suspect, Mensa Otabil is doing the secret bidding of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Recent statements by Mensa Otabil was his definition of Ghana's media as "mediocre" saying he rather "watch lions feasting on their prey" than listen to a Ghanaian radio station full of politics.
So far it remains unknown the reasons why other big shots in the call of preaching do not toe the line of Mensa Otabil.
There is one school of thought which claims the duty of pastors should only be about preaching the word of God as in the Bible instead of placing premium to political debates. This school of thought could explain the reasons why most pastors fail to tow such like.
