This should be done with your hand on the rosary and in particular you should be holding the crucifix.

How to start the prayer

In the name of the father, the son and of the Holy Spirit. You cannot say you know how to pray the rosary if you cannot do the sign of the cross. Go ahead to make the sign of the cross using your right hand pointing it on your head, chest then left shoulder and finally the right one, systematically. This is while you say the holy trinity.

After you are finished, you proceed to the second prayer. You are still holding the crucifix. The second prayer before commencing praying using circular objects is the Apostle’s Creed. You need to know how to pray in the spirit. You do this in a prayerful mood, with your head down holding the crucifix.

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth, and in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died and was buried; He descended into hell; on the third day He rose again from the dead; He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, the communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and life everlasting. Amen.
