- A man has died after the spiritual powers he claimed to have failed him
- He slashed himself in a show of power and ended up dying of his wounds
- Doctors tended to his abdominal wounds but he died a few days later due to them
A 29-year-old man died as a result of self-inflicted wounds after the spiritual powers that were supposed to have been protecting him failed to do so in Afokpa Koe at Aodzoku, in the North Tongu District, in the Volta Region.
According to a report by Myjoyonline.com, the man, who has been identified as Afelete Amewuga, was a member of the Korku group, a group believed to have potent spiritual powers.
Afelete Amewuga is reported to have taken sharp knives and slashed himself in front of spectators, and was shocked to see that the knife had left a deep cut in his stomach area.
Visibly surprised, Afelete is said to have tried to slash himself again with another knife, which left an even deeper cut that exposed his intestines.
At this point onlookers, who thought that Afelete's wounds were all part of the show, continued to look at the spectacle unfazed by the gory scene right up until Afelete asked to be taken to the hospital.
Speaking to The Mirror, Amewuga's wife, Happy Amewuga, said her husband lost consciousness at some point but doctors managed to see to his stomach wounds and he later regained consciousness.

He was later referred to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital where he finally died as a result of his wounds. He is said to have declared that he would become a Christian when he is reincarnated.
"When I return to earth, I will go to church. I won't practice this anymore," he said in his deathbed.
In an ironic turn of events, members of the Korku group performed at Afelete's funaral, doing the very thing that ended up killing their comrade, but only that they were able to pull them off successfully.
